You might not know this about KCBC but WE ❤️ LAGER. We really, truly do. And last spring, we were fortunate enough to visit the LEGENDARY @budejovickybudvar (aka Budweiser… no, not that Budweiser; the other one) in České Budějovice. The backstory of how we ended up there is kind of funny… remind us to tell you the next time you swing by our taproom. ANYWAY, it’s the National Brewery of the Czech Republic and they’ve been brewing the same original Czech lager for more than 125 years. Suffice to say: MIND. BLOWN. Not only is the beer phenomenal, but they’re also some of the nicest, smartest, most welcoming people we’ve ever met, and we were 100% inspired to up our own lager game. Over the past year here in Bushwick, our production team has been working diligently to fine-tune and improve our entire process and approach: from water to ingredient sourcing to decoction mashing to fermentation to lagering to packaging and beyond. There are many, MANY easier ways to brew beer, but we’ve found that all of this extra effort (and patience) yields results—results that we’ve come to love & crave. Which bring us to…

12 weeks ago, we brewed this beer, and we’re thrilled to FINALLY share it with you. With tremendous gratitude and ❤️ to all our friends at Budvar… THIS BUD’S FOR ALL OF US WHO FRICKIN’ LOVE LEGIT CZECH STYLE TRADITIONAL LAGER ™️

REVENGE OF THE PILS • 12° Czech Pilsner • 5.0% // An homage to one of our favorite classic Czech lagers. Double-decoction mashed with floor-malted Bohemian Pilsner malt and fermented with Czech lager yeast to create a clean, round base with subtle bread-dough aromatics and cracker-like crispness. A heavy dose of whole-leaf Czech-grown Saaz hops brings a distinct burst of floral spice and smooth-yet-firm bitterness on the finish. Lagered for 12 weeks for extra smoothness. Simple Ingredients + Precise Execution = Maximum PILS.

RUBY REAPER • Nuremberg Style Rotbier • 4.9% // Featuring a blend of traditional Vienna & Pilsner malt along with a blend of darker Munich malts. Perle hops for bittering, and a healthy dose of Hallertau Mittelfruh hops for herbal flavor. Toasty, nutty, balanced and smooth. A genuine crispy crusher.

Traditional Moravian floor-malted barley for the base, and hopped with late-harvest Czech Saaz & Polish-grown Lubelski hops. Soft floral notes, herbal spice and a touch of bready malt. Unfiltered and unfazed. Delicate bitterness. Xtra crispy finish.

Dave Witte (@stoutmania) says “Going to the brewery, hanging with the KCBC gang, and helping brew the beer was a lot of fun. I’m a real beer nut and I love IPAs but wanted it to be a nice marriage of West and East Coast styles. Basically, a traditional hoppy West Coast IPA with a little juiciness of the East Coast style is what I suggested. KCBC makes great beer so I had no doubt they’d be able to kill it. Housed in a 16oz can and adorned with the beautiful art that @james_bousema did for us for Electrified Brain, it’s a striking beer all around. I can’t wait for people to Taste The Waste!”

QUEEN OF SHADOWS • Barrel Aged Imperial Coffee Stout • 10.0% // Our no-adjunct base stout, aged for 9 months in @nydistilling Rye Whiskey barrels, and then aged on a beautiful honey-processed coffee from the award-winning Las Flores farm in Honduras (roasted by our friends & neighbors @loveless_coffees .) Jet black ink in the glass, with cappuccino-tan foam. A blast of fresh-brewed coffee up front, followed by raw cacao, toasted oats, black molasses and a hint of spicy rye. More retro than pastry. Supremely balanced. All hail the Queen!
